The gardens are absolutely beautiful, if I did ever go back, I would want to do a garden tour. The rooms that did have period related pieces in them I found to be much more entertaining to view. I was disappointed that most of the rooms were not even furnished.they are currently working on restoring the mansion back to what it would have looked like since the daughter sold everything in it when her mom (the lady who built the house) died. I will say that I'm not sure it was worth the $40 per person that the tickets cost, but it was interesting experience to say the least. There, she bought a simple eight-room farmhouse that she would go on to transform into a marvelous, madcap, 160-room mansion that would come to be known as the Winchester Mystery House. My grampa asked a question and her response was that she was going to be talking about that later in the tour and let's keep on task. In 1886, she left her home in New Haven, CT, for a new life in San Jose, CA. Alternatively, Caltrain operates a train from Millbrae Caltrain to Santa Clara Caltrain hourly. Tickets cost 1 - 3 and the journey takes 28 min. Santa Clara VTA operates a bus from San Jose Airport Terminal A to Winchester & Olsen every 30 minutes. The Winchester Mystery House will be on the left. The nearest airport to Winchester Mystery House is San Jose (SJC). At next stoplight (Winchester Blvd), turn left. ![]() It is not scary whatsoever and it is very suitable for young children however, I fear that they might find it rather boring.
