![]() They get to make critical decisions that will shape the story and enjoy moments of authentic action. ![]() Throughout the game, players can interact with the Star Trek universe in ways that they’ve never been able to before. The other perspective is from Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz, who’s caught up in the events in his own unique way. One perspective is from the First Officer Jara Rydek, who’s part of a diplomatic envoy led by Ambassador Spock to find a resolution to the conflict and uncover its source. The new third-person, choice-driven adventure game tells an original story set in the year 2380, in the era shortly after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation feature films. Starfleet is called in to handle the situation, and players get to experience the action from two different perspectives. It’s officially May, and with that, we see the launch of the interactive narrative video game Star Trek: Resurgence from developer Dramatic Labs later this month. You can pick the game up on May 23 for PC through the Epic Games Store and on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This game is set after the timeline of Star Trek: The Next Generation and involves a worker uprising that could disrupt the peace between two alien civilizations. A release date for Star Trek: Resurgence has been provided by developer Dramatic Labs. TV Star Trek may no longer feel like the '90s Trek I loved, but Resurgence is doing its best to warp headfirst into that void.Dramatic Labs just announced that they’ll be launching their new interactive narrative game, Star Trek: Resurgence, on 23 May. I can look past some goofy moments if the rest of Resurgence is as promising as it seems, though-even The Next Generation open palm slammed the silliness button every few episodes. But the developers said the animation is close to where they want it to be, so I'm not expecting a dramatic transformation between now and release later this year. Resurgence isn't finished, of course, and there's time left to smooth out the most noticeable flaws. Star Trek: Resurgence was announced back at The Game Awards 2021 and will be released for PC (via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation, and Xbox platforms later this year. These flaws stand out more in a realistic game than in the comic book style Telltale used for so many years. Likewise, the walking animations have an awkwardness to them that feels mismatched with the fidelity Resurgence is shooting for. The facial animations aren't bad, but have a robotic quality you don't see in today's luxuriously motion captured games-they remind me of the first couple Mass Effects, now well over a decade old. Dramatic Labs is using Unreal Engine and opted for a realistic art style that stumbles into the uncanny valley. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, visit Galaxy of Comics on Wednesday 11/16 where Dan Martin (lead writer on the game and co-writer on the comic) will be signing copies of Star Trek: Resurgence 1 from noon to 3pm Galaxy of Comics: 17306 Saticoy St, Van Nuys, CA 91406. Though Resurgence's tone is exactly what I want out of Star Trek, I'm worried the developers aren't going to have quite the time or budget they deserve here. I'm curious to see whether the entire thing is focused around the diplomatic mission the demo introduced, or if it'll combine multiple storylines. I hope there's more opportunity to explore the ship in the full game, which sounds like it'll be bigger than I expected: Resurgence will roughly be the length of a full Telltale game season, which the devs equated to a Trek miniseries in length. Star Trek: Resurgence (opens in new tab) looked like the real deal when we. 'Star Trek Cryptic: A Puzzles and Pathways Adventure Game' is an escape room-type of afternoon amusement where clever players attempt to climb the ranks of Starfleet while solving complex puzzles. The developers told me that the full game will have some actiony bits to break up the conversations, but in the demo I didn't do much more than walk a few feet and click on bits of the environment to get a little color commentary. The big Trek adventure from former Telltale developers won't quite make its April release target, but it's coming soon.
